CREDIT (Cambodia Rural Economic Development Initiatives
for Transformation) was established by World Relief US to provide
sustainable financial services to Cambodia's poor entrepreneurs. The
institution has a triple bottom line embracing sustainability as well as enabling its
clients to achieve socio-economic and spiritual transformation.
CREDIT became a licensed microfinance
institution in May 2004. In just a few short years, it has grown to serve more than 11,500 active clients through
its twelve office outlets and 153 staff members. Since January 2005, CREDIT
has been covering all its own costs through interest income generated on its 2.8 million dollar outstanding portfolio.
The institution is
continually improving in efficiency, outreach and capacity. This improvement is
evidenced by localized management and outstanding financial performance ratios, including less than 5% portfolio at risk after 30 days.
Micro-Credit Ratings International Ltd (M-CRIL), the world leader in rating microfinance institutions, recently gave CREDIT an A- rating for financial performance. M-CRIL
commented on the "excellent capital adequacy, good performance on profitability
and sustainability and good portfolio quality"
